Witches - Demo
These five tracks from Oxford’s Witches are examples from their latest recording sessions. They may or may not appear on their forthcoming second album, but they’d be well advised to use them, as these are five ambitious, well-developed, well-executed tunes which capture a breadth of influences and emotions. There’s A Darkness is an epic song which kicks off this demo with a burst of majestic sincerity that builds to an orchestral crescendo full of horns, layered vocals and an increasing sense of dread and anguish. Stammer is more of an adrenalin-fuelled rocket ride, while Church Beds feels almost medieval with its repeating harpsichord motif. With exquisite arrangements and clear production these five songs are an epic, breathtaking taster of what’s to come. They all sound quite different, but the variation just highlights exactly what this six-piece are capable of. Bring on the album!
